  • In Hobart, see the work of contemporary Tasmanian artists in the displays at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the Plimsoll Gallery, Centre for the Arts in Hobart.
  • Visit Salamanca Place galleries and artists' studios in Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart.
  • Many of Tasmania's specialist jewellers welcome visitors to their studios - meet Phil Mason in Hobart's Salamanca Place.
  • See Tasmanian glass at Richard Clements' studio in Franklin..
  • For 'hands on' experience, some art studios in Hobart offer excellent tuition. Contact the local Visitor Information Centre for details.
  • In Geeveston, the Forest & Heritage Centre gallery showcases the work of Huon Valley artists. Tuition is available here and at The Deepings Woodturner, Nicholls Rivulet.

  • Richmond is a centre for art and craft - browse the Georgian sandstone galleries and craft shops.

  • Visit the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery at Inveresk and Royal Park in Launceston..
  • See the internationally-acclaimed furniture in the Tasmanian Wood Design Collection, housed in City Park, Tamar Street, Launceston.
  • See Tasmanian glass at the studios of Tasmanian Glass Blowers (Breadalbane, south of Launceston).
  • Many of Tasmania's specialist jewellers welcome visitors to their studios - visit Mary Phillips-McLaughlin and Hugh McLaughlin in Deloraine.
  • Tasmanian Craft Fair at Deloraine in November is Australia's largest working art & craft event. The town has the highest concentration of galleries and working art & craft studios in Tasmania. Visit www.tascraftfair.com.au for details.
  • Looking for some 'hands on' experience? Some art studios in Longford, Evandale and Dunalley offer excellent tuition. Contact the local Visitor Information Centre for details.

In Devonport and the West

  • Visit Devonport Art Gallery and the Tiagarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Devonport for a variety of art and design.
  • Inspirations Point gallery at the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre features changing displays of art, craft and furniture.
  • See the art of the north west at the Stanley Artworks Studio Gallery.
  • Visit the Burnie Regional Gallery for a selection of local art and design.
  • Strahan is a centre for wood craft in timbers such as Huon pine, sassafras and myrtle.
  • Wander the streets of Sheffield - over 40 huge murals portray the region's rich heritage.
