All Saints Church Window

Mary MacKillop was Beatified on January 19th, 1995. The parishioners of Portland decided to erect a stained glass window in honour of the Australian Saint who had lived and worked amongst the people of Portland.

The first Catholic church in Portland was built using red brick in 1848.  The chapel had rough-hewn wooden steeples at all corners and was pulled down in the mid-1970’s.

A local artist, Terry Eichler designed the window and the local lead-lighters guild brought the design to life in beautiful colours. The window depicts the young Mary with the children she taught. The Southern Cross is like a mantle over all and indigenous flora and fauna from sea and land surround Mary.
