History of the Scone and Upper Hunter Historical Society Museum

In 1871 an upgraded police lock-up was constructed for the town of Scone. In 1965 the Scone & Upper Hunter Historical Society (est. 1954) moved to the newly vacated lock-up and established the museum on-site. In 1990 the present research centre was established in the former Police Sergeant’s residence.

 

Objectives of the Museum

The Museum occupies the Police Station and residence, which was built in 1871. The Research Centre occupies the Sergeants residence, which is located next to the Museum. The Society’s primary objectives are to research, publish, collect and display the history and associated material relevant to Scone and the district.
