The Museums and Historical Societies of the Hunter Valley reflect a diverse and compelling window into the Region’s past. A team of dedicated volunteer workers who hold specialist knowledge of their own geographic area manages each of these museums. Each group strives to reflect the distinctive histories of their area or subject through exhibitions, publications and collections.

Members of these museums work with one another for mutual support, growth and development through their own network – the Hunter Chapter of Museums Australia (NSW). This network, underpinned by the Newcastle Regional Museum, enables members to take advantage of the Regional Field Officer program (sponsored by the NSW Ministry for the Arts) and the Hunter Museums Trail brochure.
