Hamilton photographer John Kiely was commissioned by Hamilton Art Gallery to photograph some of the faces and places around the Western District of Victoria. These images were reproduced as large format black and white photographs for the exhibition People in Place – Images of Western Victorians, which was exhibited in October 1998.

The images show a range of people living in the western part of the state in the context of their homes or place of work. The 22 original images are now in the permanent collection of Hamilton Art Gallery.
